Taking your Entertaining Outdoors

It's the final stretch of summer! Here are some great ideas about creating an oasis in your backyard to take advantage of outdoor entertaining for the remainder of the summer. Simple food is best for open-air gatherings, giving hosts more time to create the perfect setting.

 •  Get creative with fresh flowers and plants. Surround the gathering area (patio, deck, or table) with potted blossoms. Use planter boxes on railings and vases on the table.
 •  Keep bugs away with fans (a slight breeze does wonder in deterring mosquitoes) as well as citronella candles. There are also mosquito lamps, a diffuser/candle combo.
 •  Music sets the tone for any event. Create a playlist with fun, lively tunes, mixing up classics (Motown and '80s) with mainstream hits.
 •  Be innovative with lighting. Hang strands of lights above the dining area or string them around a tree or surrounding bushes. Use tiki torches around the yard or dining area.
 •  Arrange a self-serve bar area with a small selection of cold beverages, from iced tea to sangria. Invest in a good ice bucket.
 •  Don't forget about the indoors. Guests will be making their way inside to help in the kitchen and use the restroom. Make sure highly trafficked areas are tidy, well organized, and welcoming.
 •  Make sure there's something for everyone to nosh on. Be aware of any special diet restrictions and preferences. Grilling is great in the summer, but many people don't eat red meat. Have a selection of main dishes that include chicken or fish, as well as veggies (kabobs, portabella mushrooms, asparagus).
 •  Create different places to sit and mingle with a variety of seating options. A fire pit is also an ideal way to wind down the evening. Leave out a few warm throws or quilts for when the sun goes down.

Late summer is a great time to pick up new patio furniture at bargain prices, or at the very least, rejuvenate existing pieces with new cushions.

"As a first time home buyer I had no idea what to expect during this process. Tanya was fantastic. She was there every step of the way and explained every thing thoroughly. Tanya was always quick to reply to any questions and her follow up was always done in a timely manner. I could not imagine a better person to work with than Tanya and her team. She is the hardest working agent in this area. I can not thank her enough for all she did for me and my husband. She truly made our dreams come true. Thank you Tanya, you are one of a kind."
